- The Embodiment of OE’s Contemporary Style -

Tatsuya completed his new work as OE immediately following the January release of "Suchness 2." This album, "Compositions in Blue," may be called classic OE, in the vein of what he had developed from "Here and You" to "New Classics Vol.1 & 2." While strongly inspired by contemporary music/minimalism, the tracks, embedded with catchy melodies and human touches, successfully combine uniqueness and accessibility.

In Dark Model's "Impulse," Tatsuya displayed his new direction in which he tried to incorporate his influences, such as prog rock and contemporary music, into up-to-date electronic sound. While this album under the moniker of OE has common grand with "Impulse," compared to its epicness, "Compositions in Blue" feels more sophisticated and delicate. "Mobius," which opens the album, is a dance track featuring female spell-like chants and rhythmic handclaps. "Reincarnation," a larger-than-life tune with elegant orchestration and choir, is reminiscent of Tatsuya's compositions as Dark Model. "Doublespeak" and "Circularity Part 1 & 2" may be the album's best part and embodiment of OE's minimalist style. Some compositions in contemporary music distance or bore listeners with their stiffness and monotony. On the other hand, these tracks, with catchy melodies and colorful song structures, successfully bring them into a wonderland of rhythmic and tricky sounds.

- OE流コンテンポラリー・ミュージック -

今年1月にアンビエント作品『Suchness 2』をリリースしたばかりのタツヤ・オオエが、早くも新譜を完成。『Compositions in Blue』は『Here and You』から『New Classics』までの路線を踏襲した、いわばOEとしての王道的な作品に仕上がっている。コンテンポラリー・ミュージック色の強いエレクトロニック・サウンドでありながら、キャッチーなメロディやヒューマンな質感がふんだんに盛り込まれた、ユニークかつアクセスしやすい楽曲が収録されている。

プログレッシブ・ロックやミニマル・ミュージックに触発されつつも斬新なエレクトロニックサウンドを指向する姿勢はDark Model
『Impulse』にも通じるものがあるが、Dark Modelの力強い壮大さとは対照的に、OE名義による今作品はより洗練された繊細さを持っている。オープニングトラックの「Mobius」は、ミニマルで呪文的な女性コーラスとリズミカルな手拍子が印象的なダンスチューン。「Reincarnation」は流麗なオーケストレーションとクワイアをフィーチャーしたドラマティックな曲。「Doublespeak」そして「Circularity Part1, Part2」の3曲は、OE流ミニマル・ミュージックとも言え、この名義の真骨頂。コンテンポラリー・ミュージックや現代音楽に見られるような、形式ばった堅苦しさでリスナーを威圧することもなく、躍動感のあるトリッキーな楽曲展開が、おとぎ話の様にリスナーを引き込んでいく。「Vortex」は「New Classics」でも見られた、近未来的で疾走感のあるテクノトラック。
